How Does Car Subscription Work?
Car subscription is an alternative to leasing and ownership. With car subscriptions you can subscribe to a vehicle for 1 – 12 months, and you have the flexibility to change the car, subscription length, and mileage package. At the end of your contract you can return the vehicle, extend, or swap into a new one – the choice is yours!
Once you order a car, we will ask for documents to verify your identity, address, and that you can afford the vehicle. You can securely upload your documents right here on our website immediately after placing your order, or use the link in your order confirmation email.
Once you are approved our team will be in touch to arrange the delivery of your new vehicle, and send you your contract, along with links to make payment. Please note that while our approval process is based on affordability, we do conduct a hard credit check on all of our subscribers. You can read a complete guide to our approvals process here.
We offer subscriptions starting at just 1 month, moving up to a whole year. You pay monthly, and prices go down the longer you subscribe. Our subscriptions provide the maximum amount of flexibility possible, by allowing you to extend, cancel early, or even swap into a different vehicle from month to month. Wrapped up in one monthly payment is the cost of your chosen car, maintenance (excluding accidental damage), servicing, roadside assistance, road tax, and MOT on older vehicles. So you don’t need to worry about any nasty surprises and unexpected costs.
Your subscription also includes replacements for worn tyres, but unfortunately not replacements for punctures, which are classed as accidental damage. For a full breakdown of everything included in a mycardirect car subscription, read our guide to everything we include here.
Unlike leasing a car, with car subscription there is only a small upfront payment. Mycardirect simply ask you for a £275 joining fee which makes you a member for life, and then a small fully refundable deposit (normally either £250 or £500). No money is taken until you have signed your contract, which you will be sent once you have been approved. Your first monthly payment is taken on the day before delivery, which thereafter will be set up as a monthly direct debit. You can read a detailed explainer here.
While your subscription includes lots of additional services, insurance is not included. We like to give our customers the freedom to find an insurance policy that works the best for them, that’s why we allow you to find your own insurance. So if you have a great relationship with your current insurer you can maintain that, and can even simply switch the registration number on your policy. You simply have to send over a copy of your insurance certificate to us up to a day before delivery, and you’re good to go. You can read our quick guide to insuring your subscription car here.
Whether you’re coming over for a holiday, returning to the mother country for a few months or relocating permanently, mycardirect are here to help. You don’t need to be a UK citizen, UK resident or hold a UK driving licence to subscribe to a car with mycardirect. As you won’t have a credit history here in the UK we’ll just need a little bit more information to underwrite you. Please note that we are a monthly subscription service, if you’re coming to the UK for less than a month, you may be better served by our daily rental service mycardirect rental.
